Hey everyone! I hope wherever you are, that you are enjoying your Autumn, all the changing colours of the trees, the crisp bite of early winter, and for me wood fires and woollies..
Well work has started in earnest on my 6th album, not very long after my last video was published, I decided to try a different recording methodology, namely recording and working on 3 tracks at a time, so that I don’t get ‘tired ears’ just trying to finish one track before moving on to the next..
The idea is to get a basic structure down, then start another and another, then return to the first track which hasn’t been heard for a while to listen with fresh ears, and I can instantly hear things I wouldn’t notice if I was just 100% concentrating on the same track, things I need to add or take away and it works!, well it works for me 🙂
So the first group of 3 has been done, audio tracking (recording the midi to audio) completed and a preliminary mix setup, then moved onto track 4, and now working on track 5, at the moment just midi blocks, moving them around, changing notes and getting the arrangement (beginning – middle – end) more or less in place, then more detailed expression can start.
Soon I will start track 6, the last in this group of 3, then audio track and move on to what I aim to be the last group of the album, tracks 7 – 10
It is quite possible that the entire album length is longer than expected, I tend to compose tracks with an average length of 8 or 9 minutes, some are over the 13 minute mark, so for a 10 track album that is easily over 1 and a half hours of music..
If the album length becomes too long, I may well end up creating my first double album!, What form that would take I cannot imagine yet, but the idea is appealing..
So far I have some great ideas down, some really nice grooves and mellow moments, all the usual suspects are in place – piano, strings, guitars, bass, trip hop beats, delayed percussion, mellow trance organ, FX samples, harmonics.. so I can’t wait to get the album mastered and published and hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed creating it!
I also want to thank everyone who has given me their support, either on facebook or twitter, it really makes a difference, you guys are all stars in my book!, love and peace to you all 🙂
