Believe it or not, this started out as an inspiration from Henry Mancini’s score from the Blake Edward’s film ‘The return of the Pink Panther’, I always loved the music from the start of the film where the museum thief begins to enter the building and makes her way through the halls and corridors. Right at the start there is this incredibly cool bongo beat, a real funky rhythm. Slowly and steadily the music builds up, keeping that slinky beat going, with other instrumentation that was a real hallmark of 1970’s Hollywood soundtracks. For me there is, and always will be something magical about 70’s movie soundtracks, cool and glamorous with sophistication, melody and atmosphere. People like Mancini and John Barry (007) were absolute masters of the genre.
So this track starts out with a bongo/congo beat, and that is kept up all the way through, with every intention of it being a tribute to those heady movie scores, however, as the track developed it became an entirely different animal, I began to layer on numerous guitars with delayed picking, that just worked really well, starting one line, then adding another in harmony etc. I really enjoyed working on this one, and I hope you enjoy listening to it 🙂
